Joseph (Joe) Walsh
Joe is a progressive supply chain executive with a successful track record of leading procurement transformations at multibillion dollar organizations across multiple industries. Joe is currently the AVP of Procurement for Intermountain Healthcare where he is responsible for more than $1.4B of annual purchases across supplies, services, software, equipment and distribution. Responsibilities include, Supplier Relationship Management, Category Management, Strategic Sourcing, Contract Management, Purchasing and Program Management.
In 2012, Gartner Inc. ranked Intermountain Healthcare forth in its annual “Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25.” In 2013, Joe was recognized as the “Contracting Professional of the Year” by Healthcare Contracting News.
Prior to joining Intermountain Healthcare in 2008, Joe held procurement and business strategy leadership roles at Foodbuy, which serves as Compass Group’s supply chain organization and is the largest GPO to the foodservice industry. Prior to that, Joe led Corporate Express’ global sourcing organization.
Joe has a bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of New York at Buffalo and a master’s degree in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University.
Highlights of Joe’s supply chain experience include:
- Led more than 450 strategic procurement initiatives generating over $400MM in total cost reduction.
- Forged strategic alliances with key suppliers to remove waste from mutual supply chain, introduce new products to market and to create new revenue streams.
- Skilled and experienced educator in the areas of procurement fundamentals, strategic sourcing education, corporate strategy, project management, cost management and counter-sourcing education.
- Implemented global supplier programs throughout more than 40 countries representing >$300MM in annual purchases.
- Implemented low-cost country sourcing network and import logistics network to support the implementation of 150 foodservice private label products and 500 office supply private label products.
- Hand-selected by two multi-billion dollar companies to lead corporate strategy, business strategy and business development planning efforts. Conceptualized and started-up a $250MM new line of business.
- Supported the implementation of a groundbreaking Supply Chain Center, which has a distribution center, courier operation, many ancillary services and the administrative offices of Intermountain’s supply chain.
